Macs Handle Business at Old Westbury, Stay Perfect in Skyline Play

Maintaining their perfect Skyline record, the Yeshiva Maccabees walked into Old Westbury on Tuesday night and did exactly what the preview asked for — handled business. YU pulled away late in the first half and never looked back, knocking off the Panthers 72–58 at the Clark Athletic Center for their thirteenth consecutive victory within their Skyline rivalry.

If there were any questions about whether the Macs could refocus after last weekend’s emotional highs, they didn’t last long. Once Yeshiva found its rhythm, the talent gap showed — and Old Westbury couldn’t keep up.

The headliners were familiar ones. Zevi Samet led the way with 22 points, continuing his torrid stretch just days after becoming the program’s all-time leading scorer. Alongside him, Yoav Oselka was everywhere, posting a monster double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds while anchoring the game on both ends of the floor.

With the win, the Macs move to 9-8 overall and a spotless 8-0 in Skyline play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • For about 13 minutes, Old Westbury hung around. The teams traded baskets, the lead flipped five times, and the game sat tied at 22. Then Samet drilled a deep three — and that was the switch. Yeshiva closed the half on a 16–5 run, stretching the lead to 38-27 heading into the break.

  • The second half was about control. YU kept the lead hovering around double digits early before blowing things open midway through the period. A 16-3 surge pushed the advantage to 62-39 with under nine minutes to play, effectively ending the night.

  • Old Westbury made one last push, trimming the margin to 14, but the outcome was never in doubt. The Macs stayed composed, closed strong, and walked out with a professional 72-58 road win.

They flipped the switch when it mattered:

Old Westbury hung around early, but once Yeshiva decided the feeling-out period was over, the game changed fast. The Macs closed the first half on a 16-5 run, then opened the second with another burst that blew the game open. When YU is able to ramp up its pace and ball movement, teams struggle to keep up.

Oselka controlled the paint and the tempo:

This was a Yoav Oselka masterclass. His 21 points and 14 rebounds set the tone physically, and his activity on both ends of the court prevented Old Westbury from ever stringing together sustained momentum. Every Panther push seemed to end with Oselka finishing through contact, cleaning the glass, or making the right read.

Star power showed — and depth supported it:

Zevi Samet did what stars do: 22 points, timely shot-making, and calm leadership when the game was still competitive. But this wasn’t a two-person show. Contributions from Itcovichi, Zakheim, Dovrat, and Schanzer kept the floor balanced and the defense connected, allowing the Macs to extend leads rather than let them shrink.

Up Next:

The Macs next game will be a rematch of the 2025 Skyline Conference Championship as they host the Farmingdale State Rams on Saturday night at 8:30pm.
