Preview, Tier I Quarterfinal: (3) TABC vs (11) Yavneh

On Friday morning, the #3 seed TABC Storm will take on the #11 seed Yavneh Academy Bulldogs of Dallas in a Tier I quarterfinal game at the Max Stern Athletic Center. TABC defeated (14) Fuchs Mizrachi Mayhem Thursday afternoon thanks to their tenacious defense and their efficiency on the offensive end. Yavneh upset the #6 Frisch Cougars to earn their spot in the Tier I bracket. The Bulldogs let an early lead slip away, but they managed to keep their composure and come out with the victory.

TABC knew they had a formidable opponent in Fuchs Mizrachi and that they were on upset alert, but they jumped out to a quick lead and continued to extend the lead throughout the game, making it very difficult for the Mayhem to come back. Point guard Eli Saks led the charge on the defensive end with a handful of steals, and he added some clutch shooting on the offensive side of the floor as well. His team will need a repeat performance from him on Friday to help shut down the Bulldog offense.

Yavneh’s stars played very well in their first round matchup, as Hillel Baynash dropped 22 points and Jordan Dekelbaum added 14 of his own to propel the Bulldogs against Frisch. Their high-octane offense is going to be tested by TABC’s notorious defense all game, so they’ll be looking to get settled early on in this game.

The key to focus on in this game will be the guard play of Yavneh against the TABC’s strong defense. The Bulldogs will need to move the ball well and keep TABC on their feet in order to create open looks, because once an offense becomes stagnant, the Storm pounce quickly on the ball and turn steals into layups on the other end. This will be a hard fought game, and it will require complete mental and physical energy to come out on top.

This Tier I quarterfinal will take place in the Max Stern Athletic Center and tip off will be at 8:00 AM. The game will be broadcast by MacsLive; you can watch the game here.

The winner of this game will face off against the winner of the Valley Torah vs. Magen David game in a Tier I semifinal matchup.
