The (2) Valley Torah Wolfpack will face the (10) Magen David Warriors in the first round of Tier I play. In the qualifying round, Valley Torah staved off an upset attempt by the MTA Lions. Eventually, the defensive intensity and hustle of the Wolpack became too much for the Lions to handle. Magen David pulled off an upset of their own in a physical low scoring battle, knocking off the Yeshiva League champion Ramaz Rams.
In their first game, the Warriors held the Rams to just 31% shooting from the field and 18% beyond the arc. Magen David went with a short bench, only playing six different guys in their victory. The Warriors got a nice two way effort from Asher Melamed who had nine points, eight rebounds, and two blocks. Jack Cohen led the team with 10 points and Allie Dweck added eight more.
In their win against MTA the Wolfpack shot just 33% from the field and 25% from three, but their suffocating press and aggressive defense turned the Lions over 14 times. Gabriel Rbibo had six steals to go along with his seven points and five rebounds. Johny Dan led the team with 17 points and 15 rebounds, while Noam Mayouhas added 10 points of his own.
This Tier I matchup will take place at 2:00 PM in the Max Stern Athletic Center. The game will be broadcast by MacsLive; you can watch live here.
