Maimonides M-Cats rally in the Fourth Quarter against Fasman Yeshiva

Updated: Sep 2, 2019

With 6.7 seconds on the clock and Maimo clinging to a three point lead, Judah Kosowsky calmly knocked down a free throw, putting the M-Cats up 47-43. Jon Rears then proceeded to poke the ball away from Fasman Yeshiva’s Doni Miretsky, putting the finishing touches on a comeback victory.

Entering the fourth quarter down 37-31, Sophomore Guard Jon Rears scored back-to-back layups, cutting the lead to two. Senior Aaron Weinstock then tied the game, and Sophomore Jesse Spear gave Maimo a 39-37 lead halfway through the fourth quarter. Rears hit a dagger three to give the M-Cats a 43-37 lead with under a minute remaining and Maimo held on for the victory. Fasman Yeshiva struggled throughout the fourth quarter, finally scoring their first basket of the period on a Doni Stein three with 40 seconds left on the clock.

For Fasman, it was a tale of different quarters. Both teams struggled out of the gate with Maimo gaining a 9-3 lead at the end of the first. Fasman Yeshiva turned it on in the second quarter, however, notching a 24-20 lead at the half. Led by Senior Doni Miretsky and Junior Ari Schulman, Fasman played their way to a six point lead at the end of the third, but could not hold on.

Up next for Fasman will be a Tier II qualifier tomorrow. Maimo will face #2 Magen David Warriors in a Tier I quarter-final.
