Magen David Beats Ramaz 40-34 in Physical Battle

In the second Tier I qualifying game of the day, the Magen David Warriors defeated the Ramaz Rams with a score of 40-34. It was a close game throughout, but the Warriors pulled away halfway through the third quarter and ultimately held on for the victory.


Magen David jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead thanks to Albert Mosseri, but they quickly cooled off. After that, Ramaz scored six straight for a 6-5 lead at the end of the first quarter.

It was a defensive struggle until halfway through the second quarter, when the teams started to trade baskets. Magen David knocked down two more threes, including one right before the buzzer, to take a 17-13 halftime lead.


Magen David came out firing in the third quarter, scoring an early three and hitting a couple tough shots in the paint to extend their lead to 27-17 by the end of the third quarter.


Ramaz knocked down a couple three-pointers early in the 4th, making the score 31-26 and bringing them within five points of their adversary. Julius Rubinstein knocked down two free throws for Ramaz to make it 31-28 with just under two minutes left. Magen David’s Jack Cohen then took it down the court and hit a layup to extend their lead back to five. Asher Melamed hit a tough layup on the ensuing possession and gave Magen David a 35-28 lead with 50 seconds left. Allie Dweck hit two free throws with 38.5 on the clock to extend Magen David’s lead to nine and top off his game-leading 12 points.


With the win, Magen David will move on to face the winner of the Valley Torah vs MTA game on Friday at 2PM at the Max Stern Athletic Center, while Ramaz will head to the Tier II bracket to face Hebrew Academy of Montreal on Friday at 9:00 AM at the TABC Gym.
