In a Tier III Semifinal game at the Max Stern Athletic Center, the HAFTR Hawks took down the YULA Panthers 41-33. It was a struggle for each team to get points on the board early in this game, but HAFTR was able to take control in the second quarter and win the game to advance to the Tier III Championship Game.
It was a sluggish start to this game, as both teams struggled to score early on, and HAFTR took a 9-4 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The offenses picked up a little bit in the second quarter as the teams started to get a little comfortable, but the Hawks stayed in front, leading 21-12 at the break.
The third quarter was a high scoring one, with the teams combining for just under 30 points, yet HAFTR’s lead did not diminish, as they led 36-26 going into the fourth.
YULA kept getting open looks, but they were not able to convert efficiently in this game, and because of that they were not able to come back, losing by eight as their frustrating tournament continued.
With the win, HAFTR will move on to face the winner of the MTA vs Maimonides game in the Tier III Championship game on Monday, while YULA will take on the loser of that game in the 19th place game, also on Monday.
