Gameday Preview: Yeshiva @ Sarah Lawrence

Tonight at 7 PM, the Yeshiva University Maccabees (13-9, 10-3) will travel north to take on the Sarah Lawrence Gryphons (10-11, 7-5) in the Campbell Sports Center. These teams last met back in November, a game that saw the Macs winning by a score of 78-66. Zevi Samet was the star in that game, scoring 27 points on 71% shooting. The Macs have been on a downward trend recently, losing their past two games. Their last game against Farmingdale all but took the Macs out of first-seed contention. They need to step it up over their next two games to clinch the number two seed in the Skyline Conference. If the Macs win tonight, it would bring their magic number to one for the number two seed. The Gryphons have been playing much better recently, winning four of their five most recent games. With Eamon Kelly leading the Gryphons in scoring, averaging just 14.2 points per game, the Macs’ defense must bounce back and put together a much better effort.

Rebounding:

The Macs have struggled this year with grabbing rebounds against teams that have a height advantage over them. In their previous matchup, the Macs managed to hold their own, grabbing just one less rebound than the Gryphons. The Gryphons average 40 rebounds a game, compared to Yeshiva's 33. With the return of Yoav Oselka, the Macs need to be able to match up on the boards and limit their opponent’s second opportunities.

Defense:

The Macs have been the second-worst team in the Skyline Conference, giving up 78 points per game. The Gryphons have the second-worst offense in the Skyline Conference, averaging just 62 points per game, and have the worst ball security in Skyline by a wide margin, averaging 18 turnovers a game. To win this game, the Macs will have to defend well and not let the Gryphons get comfortable.
