No time to dwell. No time to sulk. The heartbreak at Farmingdale still stings, but the Macs have no choice but to move forward. Up next is a Sunday road showdown against Merchant Marine.
This tilt isn’t about rankings or records. It’s about how Yeshiva responds. They came within a single point of taking down their biggest rival, only to let it slip away in the final moments. If they come out flat, that loss could carry over. If they come out hungry? They’ll remind the Skyline why they’re still the team to beat.
Don’t let their 7-11 record fool you—the Mariners are scrappy. They just pulled a gutsy 69-55 win over Manhattanville, closing the game on a 14-0 run when it appeared they were finished. That says a lot about their resilience. Clark Castleberry had the game of his life, dropping 23 points, and Merchant Marine owned the glass with a +12 rebounding edge.
The Macs need to be ready for a physical game. The Mariners aren’t the most polished offensive team, but they fight hard, crash the boards, and aren’t afraid to get to the free-throw line. If YU doesn’t box out and lets them dominate second-chance opportunities, this one could get ugly.

Start Strong—No More Playing from Behind:
Slow starts have been pounding the Macs. Against Farmingdale, they were down early and had to fight uphill all game. Merchant Marine proved they could close strong with a 14-0 run to end their last match—so YU shouldnt give them confidence. The Macs must punch first, dictate the pace, and play with urgency from the opening tip.
Control the Glass:
Merchant Marine dominated the boards against Manhattanville (+12 rebounding edge), and they thrive on second-chance points. The Macs can’t let that happen. Or Sundjyvsky and Luke Cronin have to be aggressive on the boards, and everyone needs to box out. Win the rebounding battle, and YU will control the tempo.
Keep the Foot on the Gas:
The Macs had a furious comeback against Farmingdale, but it came a little too late. This time, they shouldn’t wait until desperation mode to lock in. Merchant Marine struggles offensively, but if YU lets them hang around, they’ll gain confidence. Yeshiva needs to build a lead and keep pushing, not let the Mariners think they have a shot late in the contest.
If the Macs start fast, win the rebounding battle, and play a full 40-minute game, they’ll leave Merchant Marine with a much-needed bounce-back win.
