Gameday Preview: Men’s Basketball vs Tufts

This Thursday night, December 29th, the Yeshiva University Maccabees host the Tufts University Jumbos. The Macs emerge from a much-needed break in the midst of a two game losing streak where they let opportunities to win slip away. Zevi Samet has cooled off from his scorching hot start to the season, scoring “only” 17 points per game in his last six contests. Fellow guards Max Zakheim and Oren Betesh are going to have to step up their games to help create some supporting offense for this squad. Rebounding has been an issue as well in the past few games for this team. This team is already somewhat undersized, so a group effort must be made to corral defensive boards. The Macs simply cannot afford to allow easy points off misses on the defensive end.

The Jumbos are 8-2 on the year and can score in bunches. This team has put up 90 or more points in three of their last four games, averaging 81.4 ppg on the year. Senior guard Dylan Thoerner is the team’s leading scorer at 17.2 points per contest. He shoots the three ball often and converts his attempts at an efficient clip. Thoerner’s supporting cast provide a more balanced attack. The Jumbos are a tall team, with three starters above 6 foot 6, which should help them on the boards against this Yeshiva roster.
