Gameday Preview: Men’s Basketball vs St. Joseph’s University Brooklyn

On Tuesday night, February 14th, the Yeshiva University Maccabees will travel to play the St. Joseph's University Brooklyn Bears. The last time they played this Bears team, they won by 37 points. If the Macs win tonight, the regular season finale against Farmingdale on Saturday night will be for first place in the Skyline Conference. Yeshiva lost 80-69 to Farmingdale St earlier this season, but the Macs were without Max Zakheim and Effy Fruendlich. The Macs are led by Zevi Samet and Max Zakheim, who are the team’s main threats on offense. With that being said, guys like Matan Zucker, Roy Itcovichi, and Dothan Bardichev are going to determine their fate in that final game and during the playoffs. They need to provide consistent offensive support to make a championship run.

The Bears are 5-18 on the season and just 2-12 in conference play this year. It’s a big down year for them; they hope to just end the season on a good note by winning one of their final games. Early on in the season, Jonathan Reno had a massive offensive outburst against the Macs, scoring 28 points in that loss. It wasn’t much help, though, because the team’s leading scorer, Evan Sirakis, was held to just five points on the night. If they want any chance at keeping this a genuine game, both of them need to come up big tonight. On the bright side, they have something to look forward to in their future, as Reno is only a freshman and should become an elite player in this conference for years to come.
