Gameday Preview: Men’s Basketball vs Purchase College

On Tuesday night, November 22, the Yeshiva University Maccabees will play the Purchase College Panthers. The Macs are coming off a tough loss against Farmingdale the other night. Zevi Samet had 31 points in that game but that was sadly not enough. With teams now looking to take him out of the game and counter his strength in scoring, it’s going to be important for other guys on the roster to step up and find ways to score too. Roy Itcovichi, who is averaging 10.2 points per game on the season, will likely play a big role in this one. Oren Betesh has been a big bright spot off the bench for the Macs, averaging 9.6 points per game on 45% from three. This should be a big bounce-back game for Yeshiva.

The Panthers enter tonight’s contest with a 2-2 record on the short season. They are coming off of back-to-back losses in which they averaged only 51 points per game as a team. They have struggled from behind the arc so far this season, shooting a mere 25% from distance. They come at their opponents with a more balanced attack, but senior wing Mark Morgan, who is averaging 12.2 points per game this season, is their go-to guy. If the Panthers are going to compete in this one, they are going to need a big game from him along with a better performance as a team shooting the ball.
