Gameday Preview: Men's Basketball vs NYU

On Thursday night, December 1st, the Yeshiva University Maccabees will go on the road to play the New York University Violets. The Macs are 5-3 on the season and are looking to extend their win streak to four games. The Macs are coming off a tight victory against Manhattanville. Zevi Samet led the team in scoring in that one, knocking down five threes and scoring 27 points on the night. Guard Oren Betesh is second on the team in scoring this season, averaging a career high 13.5 points per game. He’s been on fire from deep shooting 54% beyond the arc. One thing the Macs have struggled with so far has been getting out in transition for easy looks. Tonight will be a good test for them against an NYU team that likes to run.

The Violets enter tonight's competition with a 6-0 record. A game to look back at is their dominant victory against Farmingdale State, who recently beat the Macs on the road. Graduate student Spencer Freedman is the guy for NYU. He’s averaging 18.3 points per game to go with 6.8 assists per game as well. Zay Freeney is the second option offensively. He’s a very talented shooter who can also attack the rim when given the chance. This team shoots lights out from downtown, shooting 40% as a team this season. Both of these teams are top 30 in the nation in three point percentage, so tonight should be a shootout.
