Gameday Preview: Men's Basketball vs Manhattanville College

Yeshiva and Manhattanville are set to square up for a rematch at 2:00 PM today, after an impressive 98-76 victory for the Macs on Saturday night.

In last night’s game, the Macs offense was led by Ryan Turell and Eitan Halpert, who finished the game with 31 and 21 points respectively. Turell also grabbed 10 key rebounds, facilitating the Macs win. On the other end, 6”3 Forward for the Valiants Sean Smith had 22 points, carrying most of the weight for his team's offense.

Here are the keys to today’s matchup:

1.Turnovers

  • Yeshiva won the turnover battle last night, as Manhattanville’s 10 costly turnovers converted to 12 quick points for the Macs.

  • On the other side, the Macs did an excellent job taking care of the ball, only turning it over 6 times.

  • In today's matchup, the Macs will have to continue to focus on keeping control of the ball, while the Valiants will try to emphasize on forcing more turnovers, and scoring more than the 5 transition points they came up with in the previous matchup.

2. Jake Dunn

  • Jake Dunn, Junior Captain for the Valiants, is a 6”1 Guard with a sweet shooting stroke, lethal from anywhere behind the three point line.

  • Dunn was quiet in the beginning of the second half, but started to really get going offensively down the stretch, finishing the game with 5 three pointers and 19 points.

  • Dunn is a player who can take over the game, so it is crucial for Yeshiva to limit Dunn’s open looks from three, and contain him offensively. On the flipside, Manhattanville will continue to try to feed Dunn as much as possible, and hope they can get his offensive prowess on display as early in the game as they can.

3. Offensive Rebounding

  • Both teams crashed the glass hard last night, with Yeshiva grabbing 8 offensive boards and Manhattanville tallying 9.

  • Ryan Turell and Gabe Leifer will be key in that respect, as Turell grabbed a game high 10 rebounds last night, while Leifer added 5 more. 6”4 newcomer Matan Zucker was tremendous on the glass as well, picking up 4 offensive and 4 defensive rebounds.

  • In order to support Sean Smith’s 9 rebounds, the undersized Manhattanville team will have to rely on hustle and boxing out even more in today's matchup, as the Valiants were outrebounded 38-27 in last night's game.

Yeshiva looks to sweep the doubleheader, while Manhattanville hopes to even the series. Tune in to today’s game at 2:00 PM to see how the second game of the matchup shakes out.
