Gameday Preview: #7 Maimonides vs. #10 Fasman Yeshiva

Updated: Sep 2, 2019

The Maimonides M-Cats from Brookline, MA take on the Fasman Yeshiva High School from Skokie, IL on Thursday morning in a Tier I Qualifier.

Maimonides finished the regular season 15-6, which qualified the M-Cats for the playoffs, where they won a playoff game for the third time in the past century. The M-Cats will try to rely on their depth to carry them. If they need points, they can count on Ezra Pomper, averaging 12 points per game, and Judah Kosowsky’s 10 points per game. Aaron Weinstock leads the team in rebounds (13/game) which shows how their starting five doesn’t display one dominant player.

Fasman finished their regular season 10-3, and swept their Chicago rivals in Ida Crown for the first time since 2005. Head coach Jeremy Geller will look to small forward Doni Miretzki to lead the scoring, as he has averaged 16 per game this year. The yeshiva has never appeared in the tournament before, but has a large presence in YU, so they may play a rare “home game". (Skokie played one real home game this season)

This game should be a close, entertaining one with both teams hungry to put themselves on the Sarachek map. This winner of this game will continue in the Tier I tournament, while the loser will be forced to play in a Tier II qualifier.
