Gameday Preview: #12 Beth Tfiloh vs. #13 MTA

Updated: Sep 2, 2019

The #12 Beth Tfiloh Warriors and #13 MTA Lions will face off in a Friday Tier II Qualifier.

These two teams had very polar results on Thursday. Beth Tfiloh was faced with an incredibly difficult matchup, the #5 TABC Storm, and ended up falling, 53-27. MTA had a much easier matchup, and got past #20 Hillel of Pittsburgh, 50-30. Expect this game to be much different, and much closer.

Beth Tfiloh is led by senior Shooting Guard Gav Landau, who scored 15 of the Warriors’ 27 points against TABC. Another key Warriors player to look out for is senior Point Guard Harris Gartenhaus. Gartenhaus is a veteran who has been Beth Tfiloh’s starter at the point since 10th grade. However, the nerves got to him against TABC, as he only scored two points and missed both of his free throw attempts. Look for Beth Tfiloh to utilize a freelance-motion style offense, as well as push the ball, shoot 3’s, and penetrate the paint.

The MTA Lions offense relies on three key seniors: Hudy Weiss, Eitan Pfeiffer, and Eitan Warburg. Against Pittsburgh, the 3 leaders of this squad scored 34 of MTA’s 50 points. MTA plays strong defense, and uses a half-court offense with numerous set plays.

The winner of this Tier II Qualifier will advance into the Tier II bracket, while the loser will play in the Tier III bracket. Tip-off is at 1:00 PM at Frisch.
