At 5:00 on Sunday afternoon, the #7 North Shore Lions will square off against the #9 Ida Crown Aces, with a trip to the Tier II Championship on the line.
North Shore is coming off a 58-52 win in the quarterfinal last night at TABC against #15 Katz. After leading 45-32 at the start of the fourth quarter, the Lions struggled in the final frame but were able to prevent the Storm from storming away with the upset. The Lions were able to clog the paint and force tough shots from downtown, and were able to break the Storm’s press late in the game. Eli Bokhour led the Lions with 21 points, seven rebounds, and 6 assists.
Meanwhile, the Aces are coming off a 56-37 win against heated Chicago rivals #13 Fasman in last night’s quarterfinal. Avi Okner was dominant in the paint, putting up nine points and ten rebounds. Judah Well led the Aces with 17 points last night in the lopsided matchup.
Ida Crown will look to play a 1-3-1 zone defense to counter North Shore’s zone offense. For North Shore to win this matchup, they need Bokhour and Charlie Sassoon to step up big time. A key matchup in this game for both teams will be the paint battle of Avi Okner vs. Phil Cohen. Cohen put up 14 points and 8 rebounds last night for the Lions, while Avi Okner had his best game for the Aces last night.
This game promises to be a nail-biter, as both teams are looking to punch a ticket to tomorrow’s Tier II Championship, where they will play either DRS or Montreal. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 PM at the Max Stern Athletic Center, and will also be streaming right here on MacsLive.
