(2) Valley Torah Pulls Away From (10) Magen David After Another Slow Start

Johny Dan and Noam Mayouhas led the Wolfpack to a 58-51 come-from-behind win against the upset seeking Warriors. Dan had a game high 26 points, while Mayouhas had 14 and five assists. Allie Dweck’s four three pointers and Asher Melamed’s six offensive rebounds helped the Warriors stay in the game.

After a low scoring win yesterday, Magen David got out to a hot start offensively, scoring a quick ten points and forcing a Valley Torah timeout. Magen David scored the next nine points out of the timeout, before Valley Torah forced several turnovers with their various presses and traps and cut the Magen David lead to 19-10.

The second quarter began how the first ended, all Valley Torah. The Wolfpack scored the first six points of the quarter, which included a full court Mayouhas pass to Dan. A Mayouhas three at 3:26 gave Valley Torah their first lead since the first minute of the game. Valley Torah took a 26-25 lead into the half.

The second half began with the teams trading baskets. A Dweck three gave Magen David the lead, but Daniel Hirsch put Valley Torah on top on back to back threes. Valley Torah closed out the third on a 6-0 run and led 44-36 heading into the fourth.

Dweck and the Warriors came out in an aggressive press of their own to start the quarter with several steals and blocks, but Mayouhas made a couple of tough shots inside to help VT maintain the lead. Tough defense by Valley Torah made it difficult for the Warriors to climb back into the game and the Wolfpack came out on top.

With the win, Valley Torah moves on to the Tier I semifinal, where they will take on (3) TABC at 4:00 PM on Sunday in the Max Stern Athletic Center.

Magen David will fall to Tier I Consolation where they will take on (11) Yavneh at 10:00 AM on Sunday at the Max Stern Athletic Center.
