For one half, it looked like Maimo might have a shot. By the end, it wasn’t even close.
Fueled by a relentless second-half surge (12) HA Montreal Heat turned a five-point halftime lead into a dominant 91-51 win over (20) Maimonides M-Cats, outscoring them 50-15 after the break. Simon Alloul (29 points, 6 rebounds) and Yaacov Ohayon (26 points, 13 rebounds) led the charge, as Montreal’s ball movement, defensive pressure, and rebounding overwhelmed Maimo down the stretch. With the win, Montreal advances to the Tier II bracket, setting up a showdown with (11) MTA on Saturday night.
For a little while, it appeared we had a game on our hands.
Maimo fought hard in the first half, led by their unstoppable Amiel Jotkowitz who poured in 19 first-half points, matching Montreal’s Simon Alloul bucket for bucket keeping his M-Cats within 41-36. Yet once the second half started, Montreal turned on the Heat and didn’t look back. turning a close contest into a demolition.
Montreal erupted on a 13-3 run to start the third, stretching their lead to 54-39 as Alloul and Ohayon started cooking. The Heat moved the ball beautifully, locked in defensively, and absolutely dominated the glass. Ohayon was everywhere, cleaning up the boards and finishing at the rim. Montreal was up 65-43, after three and it was all but over.
The fourth quarter was more of the same.
The Heat steamrolled their way into the Tier II bracket, where they’ll face (11) MTA Saturday night.
