Game Preview: (15) HA Montreal Vs. (20) CTA Lions, Tier IV First Place Game

The #20 seeded Columbus Torah Lions will face off against the #15 seed Montreal Hebrew Academy Heat with the Tier IV final on the line on Monday.

Ranked last coming into the tournament, the Lions have been impressive in their Sarachek campaign so far. Though the Lions lost to TABC in the first round, they played up to the Storm’s superior size with a lot of heart. On Saturday night, the Lions looked extremely dangerous in defeating the number 16 seed Yeshiva of Virginia Raiders.

Leading the way for Columbus is guard Aaron Polster who is averaging 22.5 points a game. The lefty guard scored easy layups all game against the Raiders and denying him a path to the basket is crucial to stopping Columbus’ attack. Senior scorer Jared Stavsky is averaging 13 points and has yet to truly take over a game. If he gets going tomorrow, the Heat will be facing a long morning. The Lions are fairly small and therefore rely on smart play and patient ball movement to generate offense.

On the defensive end, the Lions will have their hands full with the Heat. Montreal was upset by the Hillel Hurricanes of Miami on opening Thursday to the tune of 52-37. The Heat was determined to not let a second upset occur when they defeated the Atlanta Lions on Saturday night. The Heat rebounded from an ugly first half to come back and win the game in the second half. This resilience will be a key in the Heat weathering any Lion runs.

The Heat is led by scorer Ari Drazin, averaging 16 points a game, and do it all forward Aaron Azeroual. Guard Netanel Sebagg is playing well and his late floater in the lane against Atlanta was the deciding factor in their win. Limiting these players will be a top priority for the Lions.

The Tier IV final will be broadcast live in high definition by MacsLive beginning at 7:55 AM.
